Hassan Boufous was born in 1976 in Aït Boufoulne, Morocco. He holds a degree in History and began his creative career in video art before moving into documentary filmmaking. His early works received awards at the International Video Art Festival in Casablanca, including fifth prize for Éclair in 2001, third prize for Le Cri in 2002 and first prize for Search in 2003.
He later became closely associated with Amouddou—an Amazigh word meaning “journey”—as a director, editor, camera operator and narrator. The series became widely known in Morocco and across the Arab world. He also directed documentaries for Al Jazeera Documentary, including the Atlas series and The Nomads’ Adha.
In 2015, he received what the French Wikipedia biography describes as the first Moroccan Film Centre professional card specifically bearing the title “Documentary Film Director.” His work has received awards and recognition in Morocco and abroad.

- 2018Honoured and appointed jury member at the Chefchaouen International Environmental Film Festival.
- 2022Member of the Feature Film Competition Jury at the 13th Issni N’Ourgh International Amazigh Film Festival (FINIFA) in Agadir, held from 29 September to 3 October under the chairmanship of film critic and writer Mohamed Chouika.
